How can it be wrong when it feels so right? The Burnout Competition is fascinating to watch as folks turn their meats into worthless piles of molten rubber.
Those of you familiar with the 4-Wheel Jamboree Series will recognize the town of Canfield, Ohio, as a past "Jambo" location. You'll recall that for six years, the Buckeye 4-Wheel Jamboree was a staple in eastern Ohio until 2003 when, due to scheduling conflicts, the event was placed on hiatus. Well, last July, after a four-year absence, the Canfield Fairgrounds once again hosted a major four-wheel-drive festival. This time it was called the Truck & Jeep Fest, and it featured all the familiar and popular Jambo fare. It differed from its predecessor in a big way, though, because it benefited from the added muscle of the aftermarket-leading companies that were its presenters: 4Wheel Parts and 4-Wheel Drive Hardware. The result was a hugely successful event that drew 659 participants, 142 exhibitors, and 10,671 spectators. If you want to put the Truck & Jeep Fest on your '08 calendar, go to www.familyevents.com for all the particulars.
Ken Petersen turned some fast times during the weekend's Tough Truck racing in his Chevy-bodied truck. He actually logged the fastest time during Saturday's first race with a run of 17.38 seconds. | Rockcrawling made its Jambo debut in Canfield; at the '00 Buckeye Jamboree and it was an instant hit. Not much has changed. Scores of 'crawlers invaded the two courses throughout the weekend. | Mud Bog racing was on the agenda at various times throughout the weekend. Scores of participants challenged the bog, which was constructed in front of the grandstands so spectators could witness all the sloppy action. |
Frank Schettini threw down some freestyle moves in his Pro Comp-sponsored monster truck. He traveled all the way to Ohio from Southern California to compete in the Monster Truck Thunder Drags. Interesting fact: Schettini drives his rig standing up, suspended by a custom harness. | Roger Cardot is always competitive in Tough Truck racing, but bad luck came to visit during Saturday's racing when he lost a wheel on his Ford after a jump. Here you can see the axle plowing up the Ohio dirt as he heads to the pits for repairs. | Over at the Magnaflow booth, off-road racing legend Ivan "Ironman" Stewart signed autographs. |
