2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 to Start at $40,995
Base ZR2 Undercuts Competition by More Than $2,000

The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is hitting dealers in just a few months, and we now know what prices will be on some of those window stickers, as the off-road special will start at $40,995 with destination for the extended-cab V6. For those keeping score, that’s $2,925 less than an automatic-equipped Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Put another way, Chevy says an off-roader could buy a Colorado ZR2 and 50 years of annual passes to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, though to be fair, the Toyota is only available as a crew cab, a bodystyle that will probably add a couple grand to the ZR2's price.
That price nets the prospective ZR2 owner tons of off-road goodies, including segment-exclusive Multimatic DSSV shocks, front and rear electronic locking differentials, off-road body protection, high-clearance front and rear bumpers, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires, and a redesigned suspension yielding a 2-inch lift and 3.5-inch increase in track width. Chevy touts a long list of standard features, including the Colorado’s trailering package, a spray-on bedliner, heated front seats, and Chevrolet MyLink radio with navigation. A bed-mounted spare tire carrier and seven-speaker Bose stereo system will be extra-cost options, although buyers can replace the ZR2’s standard interior carpeting with vinyl flooring for free.
Although Chevrolet didn’t release full-line pricing for the ZR2, we can make a few assumptions based on the rest of the Colorado lineup. For example, we expect the ZR2 crew cab to add about $1,500 to the off-roader’s bottom line, and the available 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel I-4 should add $5,390 to the price. Going all in should yield a $50,000 Colorado ZR2, a price that looks like a bargain compared to the larger, more powerful, and faster—but less maneuverable and less efficient—Ford F-150 Raptor.
Of course, those prices are listed before the inevitable dealer markup that comes with highly anticipated vehicles, but both early adopters and those who wait out the markup will be greeted with one of the most impressive, technology-heavy off-road packages on the market. That Chevrolet can offer all the ZR2’s unique features for a shade over $40,000 is impressive, no matter how you look at it.
