Electric carts are nothing new. However, mass-produced four-wheel-drive electric carts are. The one-of-a-kind electric four-wheel-drive Bad Boy SUV is the brainchild of a couple of hunters who wanted a silent way to haul them and their gear through the woods without startling game. Naturally, they also didn't want to get stuck. Hence, they created a buggy that integrated an electric drivetrain with the traction of four-wheel drive to create a quiet, go-anywhere machine. It wasn't long before other folks wanted one of their buggies too.
The Bad Boy SUV is powered by a pair of 15.5hp electric motors that generate an impressive 170 lb-ft of torque. Eight powerful Trojan T-145 batteries provide the motors with current. This current is delivered via a 1,000-amp controller, which, quite basically, acts as a transfer case of sorts. The machine offers both auto and full-time four-wheel drive. In the auto mode, the controller monitors the rear motor's amperage draw and increases current to the front axle motor when it senses an increased amp draw (i.e., wheel slippage). In full-time four-wheel drive, the controller splits the current evenly between the two motors to create the equivalent of "locked" four-wheel drive. Bad Boy Enterprises says says that the result is a machine that can climb steep hills, ease through ditches, and walk through mud. They also note that the machine can travel up to 28 miles on a single charge and reach a top speed of 17 mph.
The Bad Boy SUV's chassis is manufactured in-house. The heavy-duty suspension consists of 800-pound-capacity leaf springs front and rear. Solid axles are fitted with big all-terrain tires to enhance traction.
The body of the Bad Boy SUV is also made in-house. It offers seating for up to four people or 1,000 pounds of total payload. The rear seat can be folded down to create a cargo area for your game or supplies, and it is rated to carry up to 800 pounds. The Bad Boy SUV's standard equipment includes lights, a front bumper, front basket capable of carrying 40 pounds, windshield, roof with rack capable of carrying 200 pounds, fender flares, and a trailer hitch.
If you're a hunter or if you just want a unique, quiet, go-anywhere cart, the Bad Boy SUV may be whispering your name.
