Float-Zilla
Though it's not nearly a first for monster trucks, Cody Detwiler (known to the interwebs as WhistlinDiesel) donned a captain's hat and drove his eight-wheeled Duramax diesel-powered Chevy Silverado named Monster Max into the Gulf of Mexico—for fishing, of course. Yes, the truck floated. Yes, the Coast Guard had words to say. Yes, you can find the entire stunt on YouTube.
Did You Know?
Ford would like you to know that you can sleep in its new Bronco. Lying down. In the back. With the front seats moved forward and the rear seats folded down, a single adult-sized human can stretch out within the confines of the four-door Bronc, which affords 90 inches of space to get horizontal. Don't mind if the tailgate is left open? The optional slide-out tailgate platform extends that sleeping base to nearly 8 feet.
Will the Mercedes-Benz EQC 4X42 make its way into production? Though it remains a conceptfor now, the zero-emissions SUV certainly looks fun. On the list of off-road-centric options are portal axles, an air suspension that raises ride height from 5.5 inches to 11.5 inches, all-terrain rubber sized 285/50R20, and 15.7 inches of water fording capability.
Ram is commemorating the 75th anniversary of its Power Wagon with the 2021 Power Wagon Anniversary Edition. On top of the off-road goodness you already expect from the Power Wagon, the Anniversary Edition gets two new colors, Molten Orange and Anvil Gray; a unique R-A-M badged grille; new 17-inch cast aluminum beadlock-capable wheels with 33-inch tires; 75th Anniversary goodies throughout, and a whole truckload more.
Snow Surprise Here
Here are some chilling numbers. Between 2014 and 2018, nearly a quarter of Alaska's 307 driving fatalities were caused by snow and ice, making it the state with the most winter weather-related driving deaths. North Dakota comes in second with 12.5 percent of its fatalities attributed to slippery conditions, and Wyoming, Minnesota, and Vermont round out the top five. Florida, somehow, didn't make the list.
Herculean 6x6
Rezvani Motors has released its latest creation—a six-wheel-drive, Jeep-based mega truck with a list of options fit for mob bosses and gearheads alike. Motive forces come from a 1,300-hp, supercharged, 7.0L V-8 based on the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Other FCA-sourced engine options are available, including a 285-hp 3.6L V-6 and a turbodiesel 3.0L V-6 with 442 lb-ft of torque, but we're betting the 7.0 will be a best-seller. Like one of its predecessors, the Rezvani Tank, the Hercules 6x6 is available in Military Edition, meaning it wears a full suit of Kevlar armor, bulletproof glass, undercarriage protection from explosives, run-flat tires, an armored radiator, and protection from electromagnetic pulse attacks. Security measures are taken to even more ridiculous extremes with electrified door handles, an external smokescreen, and onboard gas masks. Want one? Pricing begins at $225,000.
New at the Petersen Museum!
If you haven't thought of the Petersen Automotive Museum recently, here's a reason to give it another look. Off-road recreation is the centerpiece of the famed museum's latest display and that includes nods to 4x4s built for mud, 4x4s built for rocks, 4x4s (and some 2WD trucks) built for desert racing, and general modified 4x4 coolness.
